Jerzy Axer (b. 1946), profesor ordinarius, University of Warsaw and Warsaw Theatre Academy. Classical scholar, the main field of research: Ciceronian studies, studies on the reception of classical tradition in European culture. Author of ca. 300 publications (12 books). President of the International Society for the History of Rhetoric, 1999-2001; member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAN, 2010) and the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (PAU, 1997). Founder and Director of the Centre for Studies on the Classical Tradition in Poland and East-Central Europe (OBTA), University of Warsaw, 1992 (from 2008 - the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies “Artes Librales”, IBI AL); Founder of experimental Interdepartmental Individual Studies in the Humanities (Collegium MISH, 1993) and Collegium Artes Liberales (CLAS, 2008) at the University of Warsaw.
