Professor ordinarius at the Faculty of "Artes Liberales" of the University of Warsaw. A psychologist and philosopher. Graduate of the Institute of Psychology at the Social Sciences Department of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. In 1996 he defended his doctoral thesis in philosophy and in 2003 his habilitation thesis at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. In 1997 he published a book The Discovery of the Unconscious in the Monographs series of The Foundation for Polish Science. In 1999 he received a scholarship for The Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. In 2001 Universitas Press published his book The Galaxies, Libraries, Ashes, exploring the philosophy of literature, and at the end of 2002 Adam Mickiewicz University Press published Power and Reason, on critical social theory, which received an award from the Prime Minister in 2004. Last year Alatheia published his book, co-authored with Paweł Dybel, The Limits of the Political. Over the last few years he has been resident at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. A three-time nominee of Polityka Passports awards in literature (1997, 2003, 2004), his new book Mind, Grammar, Evolution is about to be published by Polish Scientific Publishers PWN.

Professional interests:

Contemporary political theories, psychoanalysis, cognitive science, philosophy of language. In social sciences his research focuses on the contemporary concepts of power and in theory of mind and language as they focus on the unconscious mechanisms of processing information and the sources of human socialisation. In his classes he lectures on the limits of the political, contemporary philosophy of language (two versions: analytical and hermeneutical), the history of philosophy and the theory of reading and exegesis of philosophical texts (between hermeneutics and deconstruction).

He published over 80 articles in various scientific magazines, edited five monographs – Forms of Mental Representation (IFiS PAN, 2006), Illusions of Memory (WPA UAM, 2007); Modularity of Mind (WPA UAM, 2007); Tacit Functions of Mind (WPA UAM, 2008); Chiaroscuros of Imagination (WPA UAM, 2008).

music (especially jazz and contemporary minimalist), travelling, gardening.
